During COVID or pandemic it is often difficult for old people who live alone to go out physically and do the required tasks. People may look for attendants for various other purposes as well. The app is designed so that these people can find attendants as per their requirement from their home.
While I have followed a proper Design Thinking Process, from brainstorming /user research to Hi-fi prototype creation; it took me 5 days. This is the 1st draft or beta version of the app.
There are couples or elderly people staying alone and physically not capable or comfortable of going out for important activities like paying electricity bill, consult a physiotherapist, buying medicines and other essential items. Even they find it difficult to look for attendants for their household activities. These people feel isolated, depressed and helpless at times.
The main goal is to create an app that makes the life of elderly people easy to find attendants independently by using an app that is easy to use, enjoyable, equitable and useful.
Following a Design Thinking process, my role in this project started with the user research, creating personas, user journey map, defining problem statement, conducting usability studies, creating affinity diagram, understanding themes or patterns and insights. Finally, prioritizing insights to create paper wire-frame, digital wire-frame, lo-fi prototype, hi-fi prototypes.
It's important for me to balance the design thinking process and product development life-cycle.
Elderly couples, Old people who are staying alone without proper support systems.
I conducted interviews, secondary interviews, open surveys and competitive research to understand the user needs. Subsequently, I created empathy maps, personas etc.
My Observations:
Most of the elderly people have started using smart phones but a lot of them are not comfortable using complex apps. They are not comfortable in filling out online forms or proceed with the online payments. However, they love to be self-dependent and proceed in their life with self dignity.
During the COVID pandemic, it's not that easy to conduct face to face interviews. The target users are not tech savvy as well. Still managed to conduct the research work based on the followed:
Interviews, Open surveys, Competitive Research, Create Personas, Create User, Journey Map, Define Problem Statement, Create Wire-frames, Create Lo-fi Prototypes, Conduct Usability Study.
Being old and physically not fit, people find it hard to manage tasks by moving out of home and wearing a mask.
Not comfortable of using complex applications both web and mobile and not all have personal computers.
Not comfortable in making online payments and often get confused with filling forms.
After conducting the research work, I created paper wireframes first. Then I converted the paper wireframes to digital ones. I conducted unmoderated usability study to improve the overall user experience and made a few changes as well.
After creating digital wireframes and lo-fi prototyping, I finally created mockups. Based on usability analysis and insights I had to go for a couple of changes in the mockups as well.
THANK YOU FOR SPENDING YOUR VALUABLE TIME AND WATCHING THE CASE STUDY!
